Day 1: Game Viewing On arrival in Port Elizabeth you will be greeted by your guide. A transfer leads to the Addo Elephant National Park. On a game drive in an open vehicle you can see elephant, buffalo, antelope, rhino, ostrich and lion. Transfer to a beautiful mountain lodge where you will be accommodated in thatched rondavels. Day 2: Cycling & Walking Back via Port Elizabeth, drive to the Tsitsikamma mountain range where the ride begins on a quiet gravel road. Baboons may cross the path. Pass the old Storms River Bridge before descending into the Tsitsikamma National Park, followed by a one-hour walk to the wild and rugged Storms River mouth. A climb back onto the plateau leads to the comfortable guest lodge. (45 km, gravel/tar) (B) Three-Star Guest House Day 3: Cycling & Hiking In the morning cycle into the deep valley of the Bloukrans River comprising lush indigenous forest on to Nature’s Valley. One of South Africa’s most beautiful beaches invites for a swim. After lunch, go on a unique hike around the Robberg Peninsula (two hours) with beautiful vistas of the Tsitsikamma Mountains. A short transfer leads to the beautiful town of Knysna, which is known for the “Heads”, two massive sandstone cliffs guarding the entrance to the Knysna lagoon. For two nights, stay over in a friendly guesthouse. (35 km, tar) (B) Three-Star Guest House Day 4: Cycling On bikes, explore the magnificent indigenous forests around Knysna. Visit an 800 years old yellowwood tree. Passing through lovely valleys with tree ferns, cycle down to the coast. Maybe see the “Knysna Loerie”, a colorful, local parrot species. Broken branches and droppings are the most common sights of the forest elephants. The coast offers magnificent views of the Indian Ocean.
(58 km, forest road/mountain bike trail) (B) Three-Star Guest House Day 5: Cycling & Swimming In the morning, cycle along a stretch of the historic Cape road, between Knysna and George, with its beautiful valleys comprising dense indigenous forests. Cycle through the Lake District National Park in the afternoon before reaching the guesthouse in George. A beach ideal for swimming is close by. (60 km/gravel/tar) (B). Three-Star Guest House Day 6: Cycling The scenic climb up to the historic Montagu Pass (7:45am) is rewarded by stunning views of the coast, before entering the arid Little Karoo. Spend the night in a charming guesthouse in Oudtshoorn, the ostrich-feather capital of the world, and the capital of the southern Cape (61 km/gravel). Two-Star Guest House Day 7: Cycling Today, cycle through the Schoermanskloof to the famous Cango Caves and visit an ostrich farm, where you will be able to ride an ostrich - if you dare! In the afternoon, shuttle to the charming village of Montagu with its beautiful Cape Dutch houses and spend the night in a comfortable guesthouse. (45 km/tar) (B) Three-Star Guest House Day 8: Cycling & Walking After a hearty breakfast, do the Lover's Walk, a beautiful trail beneath the Bloupont. At the end radioactive hot springs will sooth the tiered cycling legs. Afterwards, cycle through the beautiful winelands of the Breë River Valley to Robertson, where you are invited for a wine tasting on a nearby wine estate. Then shuttle to the green university town of Stellenbosch, known as "the town of oaks" and the second oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town. An informative walk through town will show you many examples of the unique cape-dutch-style architecture (60 km/tar) (B) Three-Star Guest House Day 9: Cycling & Walking After breakfast, cycle to Jonkershoek Valley in the Hottentots-Holland Mountains. Then load the bikes and head for Cape Town, the Mother City, where accommodations are in a quiet and charming guest house/hotel not far from the sea, and ten minutes away from the city. Go on a short walking tour of the city, stopping at the Castle, the City Hall, Parade, Greenmarket Square, the Company’s Gardens and Malay Quarter.(40 km/gravel) (B) Three-Star Guest House/Hotel Day 10: Hiking Shuttle to beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and climb the most famous landmark of Cape Town, Table Mountain (four hours, weather permitting). Enjoy the stunning views of the mother city and both the Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Come down by cable car. (B) Three-Star Guest House/Hotel Day 11: Cycling Today, explore the Cape Peninsula. With bikes loaded, drive along the Indian Ocean to the renown Cape of Good Hope. Stop to visit a penguin colony on the way. Then unload the bikes and cycle back to Cape Town along the Atlantic coast via Chapman's Peak (61 km/tar) (B) Three-Star Guest House/Hotel Day 12: Walking In the morning, you will have the unique opportunity to visit a Charity Project in the township of Khayelitsha, which is supported by African Bikers. This is a day-care center founded by Mavis Mbaba in 1994. The staff are trained in the Waldorf method and they care for small children ranging from two months to six years old. You can get to know Cape Town's largest township and some of its people. The holiday ends with a transfer to Cape Town International Airport. Departure time is late afternoon (B). |
