What sets Bike Riders apart?
For 15 years, Bike Riders has made traveling one of the greatest pleasures for our clients. The difference is our sense of focus. We specialize in the regions we know and love, where we’ve cultivated friends and innkeepers who welcome us. Our trips, like our company, are small by design with not more than 16 guests. We map out exceptional biking or walking routes led by seasoned trip leaders who are there with sustenance, a captivating story or unbeatable sightseeing suggestions to add the special touch to your adventure. We take care of every detail so all you have to do is enjoy.
| Bike Riders are Insiders
Because Bike Riders departures are so small and intimate, you won’t feel that you are seeing the world from within the confines of a crowd. And our small size opens doors, giving us entrée where larger tours can’t squeeze in. If the best palazzo in Pienza will only accommodate 12, for example, we limit our Tuscan trip so that we can stay there. Each season our friends from Maine to Connemara to Sicily open their fishing boats, vineyards and studios to us. You’ll agree that the advantages of being small are great!
“Bike Riders is an intimate, first-class affair.” -New York Magazine
| Gorgeous Inns
After an invigorating day in the open air, you arrive at your inn. Your luggage already waits in your room. And it is no ordinary room. It may have once belonged to a prince, a sea captain, or a marquis. Now it’s yours. (Time for a luxurious bubble bath in a claw footed tub.) In our many years of traveling, we’ve uncovered the 4 and 5-star jewels, the region’s best accommodations, and often their best-kept secrets. We avoid (at all costs) large tourist hotels. Rather, we seek out inns with personality, enchanting architectural style, outstanding service and a multitude of charms.
“..The 5 star Grand Hotel Timeo was indeed heart-stoppingly grand…our room was not only opulently appointed, but had a private terrace looking onto a magnificent garden.” -Erica Marcus, Newsday
| Details, Details
Details are what separate a good vacation from a standout one. And after 15 years of traveling through New England, the Canadian Maritimes, Ireland, Italy, France and Spain, we have learned how to locate the gems. It’s the inn that offers a spellbinding view of the Mediterranean from the moment you rise in the morning. The route leading to an exquisite 12th century Andalusian fountain not found in any guidebook. The homemade digestif that your trip leader uncorks after a picnic by a French water mill. Or the espresso you savor in a tiny Italian caffe’ elbow to elbow with the villagers. This is the Bike Riders experience.
“There is a sensibility to a Bike Riders trip that sets it apart…” -Departures Magazine
| Great Restaurants
Trattoria, ristorante, café or pub, each one offers food more delicious than the last. On our travels we’ve discovered the region’s best eateries, both the acclaimed and the out-of-the-way, serving authentic regional cuisine prepared fresh to order. Open the menu and select from all the favorites of the house … you are not given a restricted menu or limited selection … you are our guest!
“Dinner at the hotel in Gordes…duck breast with figs, crème brulee, beignets aux truffes du chocolat…it brings tears to my eyes.” -Genie Sartoris
| Tried and True Trip Leaders
They’re indispensable, knowledgeable, infinitely reliable. Yet never in your way. Our trip leaders hail from all walks of life: art historians, vintners, photographers, bike mechanics or journalists. All share a passion for traveling and for providing just what you need to have the time of your life.
Each morning your trip leaders outline the day’s itinerary, noting the highlights … a particularly good lunch spot, a potter’s studio, a waterfall you won’t want to miss. Always nearby (but never too close) your trip leaders sweep the route on foot, by bike or with our van. They review the region’s maps, pass out drinks and snacks along the way, or give you a lift when you’ve had your fill of biking or walking. Whether they’re fine-tuning your bike or filling you in on the local music scene, our trip leaders bring a rich new dimension to your vacation.
“Your trip leaders have perfected the art of allowing space, a skill conspicuously absent with other outfits. They were genuinely congenial, detail-oriented, efficient and erudite. There couldn’t have been two nicer people to share a week with.” -Karl Klontz
