This easier tour explores the lovely scenery, exquisite villages and prosperous farmland of the meandering Connecticut River Valley. This route takes you along the river’s edge, around some of Vermont’s loveliest lakes, and through such historic towns as Orford, Fairlee, Norwich, and Hanover.
Saturday, head north along the river, crossing an antique covered bridge before arriving in Orford, where you pass by the seven famous Ridge Houses (built between 1773 and 1839). Crossing into Vermont, take a scenic loop around Lake Morey before re-crossing the Connecticut River back to the inn. On Sunday, go south along the river to Hanover where you cycle through the handsome campus of Dartmouth College before finishing with an easy and scenic ride along River Road.
The inn on this tour is a special treat. The Breakfast on the Connecticut sits on a beautiful knoll overlooking the Connecticut River and the hills of Vermont beyond. Your innkeepers, John and Donna Andersen, have established a fine reputation for their beautifully furnished and comfortable rooms, and after a superb dinner, you will want to make time to enjoy the quiet view from their spacious deck or take a peaceful paddle in one of their canoes.
