Who is Blue Marble?
Blue Marble was founded in 1986 by a bunch of grad students who otherwise would have had to find real jobs. Their idea was to bring together a fun, relaxed crowd of intellectually curious people - people they enjoy traveling with (lest you were wondering, no one does this for the money). They conceived their European bike trips with this crowd in mind, instead of designing a trip they liked and finding clients for it.
Who Are You? Well, you are some (probably most) of the following: - Young, or young at heart.
- Outdoorsy, or at least interested in the side of a culture viewed through villages, farm, and open markets.
- Active. Maybe not a cyclist, but you enjoy doing things, including things that don't require a mouse.
- Social, but independent. You enjoy interesting company, but aren't afraid to sunbathe on the chateau lawn while others for in for a visit. Or to find a little restaurant with a friend while the group has dinner at the hotel.
- Curious. You like exploring things and places different from those you know.
- You are a gourmet, and enjoy the use of your five senses.
- You are open and tolerant of other people, customs, cultures, etc.
- You have been to Europe before and done the "Today is Tuesday, it must be Belgium" thing; this time you would like a less superficial contact.
What you aren't is also revealing: - You don't have stacks of money. What you have you like to see spent well. But this means compromise, not privation. Curling up for the night on a station floor while some person strums Simon & Garfunkel has lost what little charm it may once have held.
- Your day isn't ruined by finding something closed for lunch, or by finding yourself elsewhere on the map other than where you expected to be.
- You aren't excited by picky detail, even if you handle it well.
- And perhaps you would "never" consider going on a group trip. Blue Marble's version of the concept should make you reconsider ...
