Overview

Freewheeling Adventures History
Catherine and Philip Guest incorporated Freewheeling Adventures in Nova Scotia in 1987. It was organized to offer inn-to-inn bicycle touring in Atlantic Canada for North Americans from every walk of life. Freewheeling Adventures has grown consistently. Products have expanded to include inn to inn and luxury camping sea kayak trips, multisport adventures, and a self-guided option on most trips. The list of destination specialties now includes Canada, Iceland, Europe, Israel, Asia, and Latin America.

The Freewheeling Adventures Ethos
To create extraordinary active holidays, Philip, Cathy, and their staff orchestrate charismatic people, fascinating destinations, premium equipment, healthy cuisine, and comfortable rest. They treat their guests, their partners, and each other with generosity and respect. They respond to the desires and requests of their guests, and provide unique cycling and active experiences.

Choosing Your Adventure
Some Freewheeling Adventures are designed with keen cyclists in mind, and include long distances, steep terrain, and daily challenges. Others are designed to accommodate relaxed riders, or groups with varying desires. To help you choose an adventure well-suited to your ability and expectations, each trip is represented as accurately as possible, using elevation profiles to represent the route instead of, or as well as, vague classifications like “easy” or “challenging”. You can participate in most adventures if you are willing to accept “boosts” from the support vehicle when necessary, or if you will accept suggestions by your guides about extra options based on your maps and their local knowledge.

On guided trips, abundant van support and the local knowledge of your guides help you to enjoy the options at your own pace in an informed way. Ultimately, Freewheeling Adventures knows that this is your vacation, and that whatever the day’s plan is, you can enjoy it in your own way!

Guided Adventures
If you want to travel at your own pace, with van support and cheerful, caring, guides (at least one for every six riders), a guided trip is perfect. Your luggage is carried in a support vehicle, and on most days, you will see the support vehicle several times for snacks, drinks, and an opportunity to catch a lift. The groups usually congregate for picnic lunches and special affairs, but otherwise tend to spread out along the route during the day. Because you will be sharing your holiday with other adventurers likely to have a few things in common with you, your evening dinners become enriched by shared stories and entertainment, and you may make friends who will share your future adventure plans.

You can request a new date to add to the schedule any time you like, and once there are four or more participants, you get the trip for the advertised price. If there are fewer than four registrants, you will have the choice of paying a premium for a private guided trip, or switching to the self-guided format.

Self-Guided Adventures
If you want greater independence to cover the routes at your own pace, without having to carry your luggage, this is a good way to enjoy these itineraries with the privacy and intimacy of traveling by yourselves. You will have a driver to move your luggage for you, who will be on call and can provide “boosts” when you request it ahead of time. Otherwise, you will normally be expected to ride the route each day, and to be more independent than on a guided trip. Lodging and breakfasts are provided, and Freewheeling informs you about your best options for lunches and dinners.

You can choose your own travel dates, and request easily customized plans. Some advance notice is helpful, but your trip can often be put together quickly even if your departure is imminent.

Reservation Policy

All prices are per person, based on double occupancy. A deposit of 30% is required to reserve your space, and the balance is due 30 days before the adventure begins. Please visit Freewheeling Adventures' website for further information.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received in writing; if received at least 60 days in advance of start date, you will receive a 50% refund of any deposit paid; if received between 60 and 30 days ahead, you will forfeit deposit. Cancellations within 30 days require full payment of the tour cost. If, after reserving your adventure, you want to switch to another adventure in the same calendar year, you must provide at least 60 days notice, and pay a change fee of $100 per person. All other changes will be treated as cancellations.
