Day 1: Vienna Individual arrival to Vienna. Day 2: Vienna Petronell/Bad Deutsch Altenburg (Approx. 54/58 km/34/35 miles by Bike) On the Danube cycle path you bike through the idyllic meadows of the National Park “Donauauen” along the Danube, passing the castles of Orth and Eckartsau (baroque hunting castle of Prince Eugene) to Petronell-Carnuntum, the site of significant Roman excavations. Day 3: Petronell/BadDeutsc-Altenburg – Mosonmagyaróvár/Halaszi (Approx. 69 km/43 miles) Still following the Danube cycle path, you will reach the capital of Slovakia – Bratislava. Shortly after you reach Hungary, you bike through small Hungarian villages using the dam cycle path (gravel) and country roads. Day 4: Mosonmagyaróvár/Halaszi – Györ (Approx. 45/51 km/28/32 miles by Bike) Today’s stretch leads you through the former marsh region of the Little Alföld. Taking side roads you pass delightful villages and arrive at the provincial capital of Györ (nice baroque city center). Day 5: Györ – Tata (Approx. 56 km/35 miles by Bike) After several bike days in the plains, you bike now through a landscape of rolling hills and reach the picturesque town of Tata, situated on two lakes. A longer version leads you to the Benedictine monastery of Pannonhalma. Day 6: Tata–Esztergom/Surroundings (Approx. 55 km/34 miles by Bike) Leaving Tata, you travel over the densely wooded hills of the Gerencse Range. Some uphill stretches are rewarded with wonderful descents (alternatively you can choose a flat route – with lots of traffic!). In Esztergom you may admire the imposing cathedral and the wonderful panoramic view. Day 7: Esztergom/Surroundings – Budapest (Approx. 45/68 km/31/42 miles by Bike) From Esztergom you head for Visegrad and cross to the Szentendre island by ferry. Return by ferry again from the island and you reach the lively and unusual artist’s village of Szentendre. In the afternoon you arrive in Budapest. Shorter option: by ship from Szentendre to Budapest (not included!). Day 8: Budapest Coach transfer from Budapest to Vienna (departure: 5:00pm/arrival in Vienna: approx. 8:20pm) or/and extension of stay. Transfer of own bicycles is possible on Saturday only; transportation to the start hotel in Vienna until approximately 10:00pm, cost: € 11 per bicycle, reservation obligatory! : VIENNA TO BUDAPEST (Eight-Night Tour) via Bratislava Day 3: Bad Deutsch-Altenburg to Bratislava (16 miles/ 28km) You follow the Danube cycle path to Bratislava, the capital of Slovaskia. The quaint old city centee with numerous sights, a lively pedestrian zone and countless restaurants and cafes. An ideal place to relax. Day 4: Bratislava to Mosonmagyarovar/Halaszi ( 24 miles/40 km) Cycling along the banks of the Danube for a little longer, you reach the Hungarian border. Then on small country lanes and the dam cycle way you pass small farm lands on your way to you hotel stop. Day 5: Same as day day 4 of the seven-night tour and then follows the schedule above. |
