Day 1: Arrival - Transfer to Platamonas The group will be met at the airport and transferred to their hotel in Platamonas, a little fishing village at the beaches of the Aegean Sea. There, meet bike guides, who will give a first introduction and information about the coming days. Depending on arrival time the group can take a relaxing swim in the sea before enjoying their first Greek dinner together. Day 2: Stomio – Halkoma - Ambelakia (33km) On this first day of the tour, start off in the morning from the hotel in Platamonas, transferred to Stomio where the tour starts and cross east to west the Ossa Mountains. The route takes the group initially up a nice forest road, always overlooking the incredible Pinios River Delta. Cross streams and natural lakes up to a height of 870 meters and small mountain plateaus. From there, start descending towards the valley of Tembi. The descent is a pleasant rolling track with fantastic views into the Tembi Valley and at the village of Ambelakia.
After settling in to a comfortable guesthouse in Ambelakia, take a stroll around the traditional village and enjoy a typical Greek meal on the market place.
Ascent: 834m Descent: 469m Day 3: Ambelakia – Tembi - Kallipefki (48km) Leaving the traditional guesthouse in Ambelakia in the morning, cross over from Ossa to the Kato Olympos or Lower Olympos mountains. The descent into the valley and the village of Tembi is an early morning joy ride followed by the crossing of the Pinios River. Then start the long ascent towards the south overlooking the whole Thessalia plain. The view is simply breathtaking! Head of east to sheep country. The dried lake of Kallipefki follows - a big fertile plateau in present times – and cycling around this plateau you reach the hotel for the night. It is located opposite of the village and offers a great view towards Olympus.
In the tavern of the local shepherd, enjoy a tasty grilled meal.
Ascent: 1263m Descent: 1056m Day 4: Kallipefki – Karia - Sikaminea (37km) Today's journey will take you over the last ridge of Kato Olympus and cycling towards the main mountain. You will really enjoy the breathtaking views of the highest peaks. Having a break in the village Karia, follow the route to Sikaminea. The destination of the day, the village of Sikaminea, one of the most original mountain villages lies in the next valley directly beneath the highest peaks of the area. The guesthouse is located on a small hill opposite of the main mountain range of Olympus.
Ascent: 820m Descent: 550m Day 5: Sikaminea – Sparmous – Olympiada – Kalivia – Pythio – Agios Dimitrios Bike in the rolling terrain of the west side of Mount Olympus. The area is virtually untouched and bikers will enjoy the wide views and magnificent colors of the area. From the lodge in Sikaminea, first ride through the hills to the monastery of Sparmous, one of the biggest and most interesting in Greece. The route leads further through the valley and to the village of Olympiada and onwards crossing the high plain to Kalivia and Pythio. This is relaxed biking before ascending the flanks of Mount Koryfi and reaching Agios Dimitrios, the destination of today’s route. The hotel here is well known for its fantastic meals, wild pig!
Ascent: 720m Descent: 610m Day 6: Agios Dimitrios - Petra (38km) On this ultimate day of crossing the Olympos Mountains, leave Agios Dimitrios on a country track leading along the foothills of the west side of Olympos and the river bed of Xerolaki. Xerolaki stands for ‘Dry River’ and is a synonym for the most exiting route of this journey. Following the dry riverbed, ride along the valley before reaching the north side of Olympus and the village of Petra.
Ascent: 490m Descent: 1060m Day 7: Petra – Katerini – Dion - Platamonas (62km) On the last day of the Crossing Olympus journey, ride from Petra towards Katerini, the biggest city in the area. Cycling around this city, follow the street to Dion, the historical place where the first ancient Olympic Games took place. You can visit the museum and the archaeological site before continuing the road along the foot of Mount Olympus. Passing from Litohoro, the small mountaineering village at the foot of the impressive Enipeas Gorge, cycle to the coast. Following the coastline and passing the castle of Platamonas, you reach the hotel in Platamonas. In the evening, celebrate this ‘Trans Olympos’ bike journey with a barbaque on the beach.
