Intrepid Travel
Darrell Wade and Geoff Manchester started Intrepid Travel in 1989. Intrepid now employs over 60 office-bound staff in four international offices, about 150 group leaders based in various countries around the world and contracts with many local operators globally. Whilst the company and our range of trips and travel styles have grown, our company and travel philosophy has stayed the same.

Our Group Leaders are knowledgeable, caring, energetic, friendly, intelligent, honest and fun loving people. They have great passion and enthusiasm for the places they call home and love sharing this with Intrepid travelers. They are very much part of the Intrepid travel experience and are fully involved in group activities and explorations.

Intrepid is committed to a style of travel that is environmentally, culturally and socially responsible - we call this 'Responsible Travel'. With our travelers participation we aim to travel in a way that conserves the areas we visit and bring positive benefits to local communities.
Our travel style ... - Grass roots travel using local public transport where possible - minimizes demand for special tourist vehicles and fuel.
- We choose small-scale locally owned accommodation and homestays where available and local restaurants and markets for dining, retaining revenue in local communities.
- Our leaders facilitate communication of our values to travellers and local communities, educating them in sustainable tourism practices.
- We employ local guides to aid travellers' understanding of local culture and etiquette.
- Small groups allow travellers to experience cultures at first hand, offering greater opportunity for cross-cultural understanding.
- We are committed to putting back into the communities and regions we visit by supporting many aid, development and conservation projects in these areas.
