Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Cycling, Scenic Van Shuttle After meeting in Banff at 9:00 am at the Banff train station, the group is shuttled to beautiful Lake Louise. From here, cycle westwards across the Great Divide into British Columbia. After an exhilarating downhill from Kicking Horse Pass into Yoho National Park, shuttle through Glacier National Park to a beautiful ski lodge overlooking Revelstoke. Distance: 32 km (19mi).
Day 2: Cycling, Ferry Ride, Hot Springs In the morning, cycle down the spectacular Columbia River Valley and enjoy a sumptuous lunch at Shelter Bay before crossing the Upper Arrow Lake by ferry. Today's destination is the luxurious cabins at Halcyon (natural) Hot Springs – the perfect location for finishing a great day of cycling: in the lakeside pools you are treated to an unforgettable soak under the stars. Distance: 44 miles (70 km).
Day 3: Cycling, Swimming, Art Galleries Today, cycle out of the Arrow Lake basin and ride over a pass (11km moderate climb) up to Three Island Lake. Enjoy lunch next to the lake and then cruise downhill for ten miles to Slocan Lake and historic New Denver. Spend the afternoon swimming and relaxing at a lakeside guesthouse. Another home cooked dinner will be a fitting finish to a fantastic day. Distance: 55 miles (90km).
Day 4: Cycling, Trail Ride, Ghost Town Visit, Cable Car River Crossing After a good night's sleep and a delicious breakfast, it's on to the bikes again. Departing Slocan Lake, cycle across the Selkirk Mountains on the moderate grades of an abandoned railway. Half way up the pass, take a side trip to Sandon, a mining ghost town. This is silver mining country and in the last century Sandon was once the wealthiest mining community on the continent. After lunch, continue up to the summit at Fish Lake before finishing the day with a phantastic downhill back to New Denver.
Distance: 31 miles (50 km).
Day 5: Cycling, Hot Springs, Ferry Crossing, Art Galleries Start the day with an extraordinary 17-mile (27-km) downhill ride to Kootenay Lake and the pretty town of Kaslo. A short stop to swim, snack or shop for handcrafted souvenirs is in order before continuing along the lake to Ainsworth Hot Springs. The hot pools and steaming caves will be a welcomed reward. After soaking, board the ferry and cross Kootenay Lake to reach Wedgwood Manor, a legendary turn-of-the-century mansion. Distance 31-45 miles (50-75 km).
Day 6: Cycling, Scenic Van Shuttle A glorious morning ride takes you along the shores of Kootenay Lake, dotted with many little resorts and secluded coves. You will enjoy the light traffic and spectacular mountain scenery on today’s ride toward Creston before returning to Banff by van at approximately 6:00 pm. Distance: 30-50 miles (48-80km).
