Day 1: Sunday Stockholm - Södertälje (28 miles)
Upon riding out of the city you'll immediately be struck by the success of the Swedes at accommodating bicycle traffic. In a solid hour you'll arrive at Drottningholm Castle, principal residence of the Swedish royal family. Visit the splendid north wing, which is open to the public, before heading out to Lake Mälarsee the country's third largest lake, twice the size of Lake Constance. There you'll cycle to several islands in the lake which are joined by bridges. Further on is Sturehov, a jewel amongst the country's baroque castles. A highlight is the castle's collection of 18th century tiled stoves. Tonight you’re a guest at the hotel "Sklogshöjd," and you will dine at a ship-restaurant in the harbor. Day 2: Monday Södertälje - Trosa (35 miles)
After leaving Södertälje you'll soon reach the Sörmland where fertile fields break up a landscape primarily composed of forest and water. The area, historically favored by the nobility, is dotted with manor houses and small castles. Before reaching today's destination, you'll also visit a lovely 12th century country church. Tonight's accommodation is the "Romantik Stadshotellet," in Sweden's smallest city. Day 3: Tuesday Trosa - Södertuna bei Gnesta (20 miles)
This morning there is time to enjoy the atmosphere of the painterly alleyways and wooden houses with their turn-of-the-century charm, or go sea bathing in the Baltic. Tonight’s hotel is the "Södertuna Slott" located on a peninula in the lake. Day 4: Wednesday Södertuna - Yxtaholm bei Flen (41 miles)
Today's route is rich in landscape impressions as you cycle through the heart of Sörmland. The route passes through expansive cornfields and great woods broken up by lakes. The rare Osprey nests in the area and there is some chance of encountering one of Sweden's 300,000 elk. Tonight you'll be guests at the manor house "Yxtaholm Slott". Day 5: Thursday Yxtaholm/Malmköping - Västerås (30 miles)
The morning starts with a bus ride to Eskilstuna, the Swedish knife and scissor city. From there it's an hour of cycling to reach Lake Mälaren near Sundbyholm with its early medieval cliff drawings. In the afternoon you'll ride to Strängnäs - site of an important cathedral and the stage for important events in Swedish history. From here a ship brings you to Västerås, which has a successful architectural mix of quaint quarters and interesting industrial buildings. After touring the cathedral, home to a fine carved altar, you'll be received at the "Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel". Day 6: Friday Västerås - Uppsala (12 miles)
It's not far to Anundshög with its collection of large grave mounds, ship burials and runic stones from the late ice age. From here a special bus brings you to the country church of Härkeberga, and on toSkokloster. In Härkeberga you'll marvel at the interior painted decoration, representing scenes from the Old and New Testament with sometimes monstrous and grotesque figures. You'll have a thorough visit of Skokloster, the magnificent former residence of the military and political dynasty of von Wrange,l which gives an excellent picture of upper-class life in Sweden's golden age. An old-time steam ship will bring you upriver from Lake Mälaren into the center of Uppsala. If time permits you'll visit the city cathedral. For your last night you'll discover the city's best hotel, the "Radisson SAS Hotel Gillet". Day 7: Saturday End of Tour, Farewell! - (0 miles)
