| Gary Nichols - Whitewater Kayaking Director
Gary has been running rivers since the late 60's - that's 40 years! He started canoeing on the Snake River in Wyoming, then learned to kayak in 1975.
He's been teaching canoeing, kayaking and river rescue since 1979. He has paddled and kayaked nearly every river in the west as well as in Chile, Argentina, and Costa Rica.
Gary is "the man" on river running. He wrote the book "A River Runners Guide to Utah" in 1982.
| Shawn Somsen - Mountain Biking
While working in a ski and bike shop in the 1980's, Shawn bought his first mountain bike, a top of the line 32 pound fully ridged ride (ouch! those were the days!).
Many bikes and many thousands of miles later, Shawn never finds himself tired of the variety of trails Utah has to offer.
The canyons around Salt Lake City boast of many great trails. Park City alone has 350 mile of spectacular single track. Mountain bikes may have been born in Marin County, California, says Shawn, but Utah is where they want to spend the rest of their lives.
Shawn lives at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon (home of Alta and Snowbird ski resorts), where he and his wife and their three children spend as much time on their bikes as possible.
| John Louviere - Mountaineering Director
John has been mountaineering for 23 years. His mountaineering experience began in the Northwest climbing, and later guiding, up most all of the glaciated peaks in Oregon and Washington. In the past 10 years he has been climbing in British Columbia and Alaska.
John combined his passion and profession and worked as Director of Outdoor Recreation for Utah State University from 2004-2007. He is also a graduate from the National Avalanche School and has been teaching beginner to advanced avalanche safety and forecasting courses for the past 9 years.
He is now working on a PhD, raising 3 young boys and trying to find a ways to fit in his next high-altitude climb. Highest peak to-day: Denali (6,194 m / 20,320 ft).
| Bruce Richardson, alias 'Jed Clampett of the Wasatch' - Hiking Director
Bruce is a legend in his own time. He has hiked and summited nearly every interesting place and every peak worth hiking in the west.
Rumor has it he has over 100,000 miles on those skinny legs and he is still going strong.
Bruce is an old fashion mountain man who loves the outdoors. He lives up in the mountains in a small shack without modern conveniences, by himself, eats unrecognizable food, and most of the time sleeps under the stars.
Although he is a man of steel he is the nicest person you will ever meet.
But a warning: Don't ever start a conversation about politics!!
